We are committed to helping you heal comfortably and successfully after your treatment. The following instructions will guide you through your recovery and help you protect your smile. If you have any questions along the way, our team is always here to support you.
After Nightguard or Occlusal Appliance Delivery
Your custom nightguard or occlusal appliance is designed to protect your teeth from grinding or clenching and to relieve symptoms of TMJ dysfunction. Proper use and care are essential for long-term effectiveness and comfort.
1. Wear Instructions
• Wear your appliance exactly as directed, typically every night during sleep
• Some patients may be instructed to wear it during the day for certain TMJ conditions
• It may feel bulky at first, but most patients adapt within a few days
2. Cleaning
• Clean your appliance daily using a soft toothbrush with mild soap and cool water
• Do not use toothpaste or hot water, as they can damage the appliance
• If approved by your dentist, you may soak it in a non-alcoholic denture or retainer cleaner once a week for deeper cleaning
3. Discomfort and Adjustment
• Mild pressure or soreness is normal during the first few days of wear
• If discomfort persists, or if you feel the guard is too tight, loose, or affecting your bite, call us for an adjustment
• Never attempt to modify the appliance yourself
4. Storage and Safety
• Always store your appliance in the case provided when not in use
• Keep it out of reach of pets and children
• Avoid wrapping it in tissue or leaving it exposed, as it can be easily lost or damaged
